OVERVIEW
Innsbruck is what I would describe as the perfect, little, European town. The buildings have the classic European charm and it is nestled in the Nordkette mountains, commonly called the Northern Chain. It is a quaint town, with only a little above 100,000 people in the population. Innsbruck is also nicknamed “Biketown” because so many locals ride their bikes all over the city, which isn’t hard to do in a town this size. This town will make you feel like you are living in the Disney movie “Frozen”.
ATTRACTIONS
If you’re wondering where to go and what to see while you tour Venice, you have come to the right place. The first main attraction is St. Mark’s Square. One of the many reasons that this area is necessary to pay a visit to is because it is almost at the center of Venice and is an easy reference point to find. Another great aspect about the Square is that there are several museums, including the St. Mark’s Basilica. Something to note about the St. Mark’s Square is that, although it is beautiful, beware that there is no where to sit down unless you are eating at a restaurant. There are no benches anywhere in sight and if you attempt to sit on steps or the ground a worker will come over and ask you to stand up. This may seem abnormal to you, but it is ultimately to keep respect for the area, especially the tower in the Square.

Hofgarten
The first thing that I loved about Innsbruck (besides the amazing mountain view) was the park that was central to the town called Hofgarten. This is a small park that is easily accessible and a quick 20 minute walk to go through and see the luscious greenery. It is truly a beautiful park to have so close to town.
Hungerburg Funicular
One more thing I would add to the list is to use the Hungerburg Funicular. This is an impressive cable car that connects Innsbruck to Hungerburg by taking you up a steep incline to the top of the mountains. Once you get to the top, you get stunning views and can even see across the border to Italy. Tickets are as low as $11, so if you have the time, I would highly recommend this activity.

Altstadt
Renting a bike and riding through town is a great way to see this city. So many people ride bikes here and there are bike lanes everywhere for easy accessibility. Even if you can’t manage to ride a bike, the city is still perfectly walkable, just stay out of the bike lane!
Seeing the row of houses in front of the mountain range is one of the most beautiful sites in the city. I used a picture that I took in front of the river for the first photo of this page, and it is truly stunning. While it is known for being one of the most picturesque places in Innsbruck, beware of the locals moving in this area because it does have a good amount of foot, bike, and vehicle traffic.
Wandering around Altstadt, the town center, is one of the best pass times for new tourists. It has great restaurants and gift shops, if you still need to pick up a souvenir. Being in the town center gives a feeling of truly being in a charming European town. Most people in the town center did speak English, so it was easy to communicate. If you are in the mood for some food, keep in mind that the food service was especially slow compared to the U.S., even for Europe too. There are several places that you can grab something to go, but in order to sit down and enjoy a meal here, give yourself a good two to three hours.
IN CONCLUSION
Overall, Innsbruck is a beautiful town and I definitely recommend seeing it just because of the mountains alone. The views are incredible and absolutely worth a visit. However, I would not make this your main trip destination. Innsbruck is a small town and you may run out of things to do after a day or two. If you stay here, I would recommend two days max. Personally, I stopped here on my way from Venice to Salzburg and wished I had spent at least half the day here, but I only managed a couple of hours. The people are friendly and the European charm is real, what’s not to love?
